UCLA reddit is a great platform for UCLA students to informally exchange useful information, even if it doesn’t seem intuitive to say so. When I first heard about the reddit page as a student, I was skeptical. I thought that Reddit was just a social media site with a bit of a reputation for harboring offensive content, not a potentially useful resource for students. However, as I spent more time at UCLA, I found that many of my friends are on UCLA reddit and sometimes find it helpful beyond finding funny UCLA memes.
For example, one of my friends had a difficult time figuring out his housing situation for the following school year. He decided not to room with the same people he was currently living with and he needed to find a new set of roommates. His first attempt at a roommate group fell through and it was relatively late in the year to find others to live with. However, after he posted on reddit, he was able to quickly find a group he was happy with.
UCLA reddit also helped me get into a class I wanted to take for my major. It filled up too fast for me to enroll as a sophomore with late enrollment times, so I posted on the reddit page asking if anyone was dropping the class and, if so, whether they were willing to pass their spot on to me. Someone responded and I was able to take their spot easily, getting the class I needed.
The reddit page is filled with students asking about classes, sublease and roommate ads, requests for advice, and general non-UCLA related questions, and many of these questions are engaged with answers. People also post general advice or information about UCLA and Westwood Village without being prompted by a question. Although it is more informal than official UCLA pages, UCLA reddit can be a great place to keep up with what’s new at UCLA, connect with other students over shared experiences and get good advice from people who have likely had the same problems you will face at college.
