Starship robots
Delivering Bruin meals on wheels
Starship robots are now a common sight on the UCLA campus, steadily rolling on their way to deliver warm meals from on-campus ASUCLA Restaurants to students. Click the link below to download the Starship Delivery app and get your next meal delivered by the autonomous Starship robots.
The Starship Delivery app is fairly intuitive and user-friendly. To order, just pick food and drink items from the ASUCLA Restaurants available for mobile order on the app. Next, drop a pin to establish a pick-up spot. Once the order is placed, a Starship robot will pick up the food. The robot’s location on campus can be tracked on the app through an interactive map; users will receive a notification when the robot has reached the pick-up spot, prompting them to meet the robot there and unlock the food compartment through the app.
At the time of the Starship robots’ debut on UCLA campus in January 2021, the delivery service was limited to three ASUCLA Restaurants: Blaze Pizza, Bruin Buzz, and Southern Lights. However, since more students have returned to campus, the options have expanded to 12 locations all across campus like Kerckhoff Coffeehouse, Northern Lights Cafe and Lu Valle Commons. “The new service is an excellent alternative to traditional delivery, especially as we continue to confront the challenges of COVID-19,” said Cindy Bolton, ASUCLA Director of Food Operations in a Jan. 27, 2021, press release. “By using delivery robots, ASUCLA Restaurants can serve more essential workers and students on campus. Plus, robots are fun!
