Blendid
Smoothies with a robotic twist
Blendid has entered the UCLA Restaurant scene with the new smoothie-making robot located on level one of Ackerman Student Union. Order a smoothie through the Blendid app, available for download through the link below.
Jamba by Blendid– or “Mo Jamba” as it has been nicknamed by the UCLA community– is an autonomous robot that uses machine learning, robotics and artificial intelligence to make plant-based, refreshing smoothies.
It’s easy to order a smoothie with Mo Jamba; through the app, customers can choose from pre-made drink options and adjust produce and add-on quantities to a perfect liking by using the display screen or through the app. After creating the perfect custom smoothie, customers can also select the pick up time so they can enjoy a freshly made drink without having to wait.
Mo Jamba is all geared up to be the best smoothie robot it can be; according to an Aug. 8, 2022, Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) press release, it has “two pick-up windows and is equipped with a robotic arm, three blenders, refrigerators and 20 dispensers that hold all produce and ingredients needed to blend the perfect smoothie.” With all of these tools at its dispensal, Mo Jamba can make nine smoothies simultaneously and up to 45 custom blends in an hour.
Blendid opened its first commercial robotic smoothie kiosk in 2019 and has been working with Jamba, a chain restaurant company specializing in juice and smoothies, since 2020. According to the Aug. 8, 2022, ASUCLA press release, Mo Jamba is the first Jamba by Blendid kiosk located at a west coast college campus. Aside from expanding to different locations, the food-robot company hopes to expand its food options beyond smoothies to soups, bowls and more.
