Tenth annual T-Shirt contest now open for design submissions

Students voting for their favorite submission for the annual T-shirt contest at Kerckhoff patio

UCLA students who want to see their artwork on a T-shirt in the UCLA Store can now submit their designs to this year’s 10th annual T-shirt contest, hosted by Bruin Custom Print.

Los Angeles, Calif., Oct. 10, 2022 – Commemorate the 10th annual Bruin Custom Print (BCP) T-shirt contest by submitting a handcrafted design to be printed on a limited edition T-shirt. Entries are now being accepted for the chance to have the winning shirt sold exclusively at the UCLA Store.

All students are eligible to participate in the contest and are encouraged to craft a self-made design related to UCLA for Bruins to wear proudly. Artwork will be accepted beginning Monday, Oct. 10, until Friday, Oct. 28 by 11:59 p.m. Those interested in submitting their art need to first go to the UCLA Store T-shirt contest webpage to learn the rules of image and design eligibility. Official UCLA logos approved for T-shirt use are also listed on the webpage.

Following the submission closure, BCP will host a design showcase event on Nov. 6 on the Kerckhoff Hall patio as an opportunity for the Bruin community to experience the artistic talents of UCLA students.

The top 20 final designs will be printed on T-shirts and announced on Nov. 16; students will be able to vote online for their favorite design between Nov. 28-Dec. 2, with the first place choice to be announced at noon on Dec. 6. The T-shirt with the winning design will be available for all to purchase in-store and online at uclastore.com. Proceeds from the sale of the winning T-shirt will benefit an organization to be determined by the Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) Board of Directors.

2021-2022 T-shirt contest winner Mikayla Kwok, second-year biology student

“No matter their field of study, UCLA students from every part of campus never fail to impress with their unique design entries,” Guy Adams, BCP division area manager, said. “We can’t wait to see what talented Bruins come up with this year.”

In its decade of unique student-made apparel, the annual contest stayed true to its T-shirt roots for nine of the 10 years; reimagining the contest in 2020, the appropriate shift was made to replace the T-shirt with a face mask design to meet the needs of the present day.

The iconic T-shirt concept returned in 2021-2022, awarding Mikayla Kwok, then second-year biology student, as the winner for her unique illustration of Joe Bruin steering the iconic Starship Technologies delivery robot. Those interested in purchasing Kwok’s T-shirt can still do so at the UCLA Store in-person or through the website here.
