Los Angeles, Calif., Oct. 19, 2022 – With study lists now finalized for the fall, the UCLA Store concluded its Inclusive Access program has saved students $363,890 on digital course materials for the quarter. A total of 17,752 textbooks, academic and classroom materials were provided through the program this quarter to 13,390 participating UCLA students.

Inclusive Access is a program offered through the UCLA Store book department, a division of Associated Students UCLA, to provide immediate, online access to course materials while saving over traditional print textbooks. UCLA faculty can enroll their courses into Inclusive Access so students interested in participating can have easy access to required material by day one of class each quarter.

Putting this feat into perspective, 258 courses were opted to have materials provided through Inclusive Access, which listed 129 distinct digital titles for the fall quarter. These numbers prove the growing success of the UCLA Store’s Inclusive Access program as participation rose by 71% this calendar year, saving UCLA students a total of $712,671 on digital course materials in 2022. Weighing the Inclusive Access program to digital list prices for the materials, the UCLA Store boasts a 28% average yearly savings for students.

“This apples-to-apples comparison is a testament to how Inclusive Access works to provide the best, affordable textbook services to UCLA students,” Scott Chapman, UCLA Store book division manager, said. “Our department is pleased with the course enrollment and student participation this quarter as involvement in Inclusive Access continues to grow.”

The UCLA Store is projecting student savings to continue on an upward trend as Inclusive Access course enrollment and student participation is rising with further awareness of the program. Inclusive Access already has 114 titles across 156 courses set for the 2023 winter quarter, and the UCLA Store book division continues to add new titles and classes to the program each day.

Faculty looking to save their students money can enroll their courses in Inclusive Access by submitting a textbook requisition via the platform Collect. Select the option to adopt a title into Inclusive Access if not previously added. As a general rule of thumb, the deadline to submit a textbook requisition is week four of the prior quarter. To opt into Inclusive Access, title requests need to be submitted no later than six weeks prior to the start of the intended academic term.

Students can check their UCLA email a week prior to the start of a quarter to identify which of their courses are enrolled in Inclusive Access. Students can also check the UCLA Store Course Materials tool through Bruin Learn to determine if the program is already available for select titles, or through the booklist on the UCLA Store website. Program titles begin with the identifier: “Inclusive Access.”
