ASUCLA celebrates success with 23 commencement celebrations
ASUCLA is hosting yet another record number of graduation ceremonies throughout its facilities with 14 commencements and nine celebrations planned for the Class of 2023 throughout June.
Los Angeles, Calif., June 16, 2023 – In celebration of the Class of 2023, Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) is honored to host an unprecedented 14 UCLA commencement ceremonies and nine end-of-year celebrations throughout June to observe the academic milestone of this year’s graduates and wish them well into their futures.
Hosted by ASUCLA Events Services, the Kerckhoff Coffeehouse Patio, Bruin Reception Room, Charles E. Young Grand Salon and Ackerman Grand Ballroom (AGB) will be transformed to welcome friends and family to watch their loved ones shift their graduation tassels to the left, symbolizing their completion of an academic degree at UCLA.
“Congratulations, Class of 2023, on this monumental achievement,” said Pouria Abbassi, ASUCLA Executive Director and CEO. “On behalf of your Association, I would like to express a deep appreciation of the opportunities you offered us to support your journey at UCLA.”
Following last year’s record number of 13 ceremonies held in ASUCLA spaces after a two-year pause on in-person commencement, this year’s graduation season will once again make ASUCLA history. With a total of 14 ceremonies of the 23 total celebrations held throughout the ASUCLA Student Union, this year’s celebrations includes the expanded ceremony build-out in support of the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs on the Kerckhoff Coffeehouse Patio.
For the 2023 UCLA commencement season, ASUCLA is welcoming back the celebrations of the UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences; UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs; UCLA Department of Physics and Astronomy; Asian and Pacific Islander ceremony and celebration; UCLA Department of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology; UCLA Department of Neurosciences; UCLA Department of Statistics; Institute of the Environment and Sustainability; David Geffen School of Medicine, Geriatric Medicine Fellowship; and David Geffen School of Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship; as well as newly hosting the UCLA Geography Department; Institute for Society and Genetics; UCLA Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics; and the Vietnamese Student celebration.
“Congratulations to the Class of 2023 for all of your outstanding achievements,” said Roy Champawat, ASUCLA Student Union director. “We are excited to host many of UCLA’s commencement ceremonies in your ASUCLA Student Union and celebrate this academic milestone with your friends and family.”
Present to support the ceremonies on-site over the weekend include the additional ASUCLA divisions of the UCLA Store and ASUCLA Catering. Serving many of the 23 celebrations with meals and refreshments, ASUCLA Catering will be additionally supporting 25 ceremonies across the campus as far south as Boyer Hall and as furthest north as the Coral Tree Walk.
The UCLA Store is not only supplying fresh flower bouquets and refreshments for guests during the ceremonies, but is also providing necessary graduation services including graduation regalia, sash customization, senior photo sessions and more.
