Founded at UCLA in 1951, UCU has served the unique needs of the university community for over 70 years. UCLA faculty, staff, students, alumni and their immediate families are all eligible to begin banking with UCU and receive member benefits listed below. 

Low rates

With UCU approval, members can get low rates on loans with the UCU’s Best Rates in the Nation Guarantee. According to its website, the UCU is “the only financial institution nationwide to guarantee that our rates on auto loans, credit cards, consolidation loans, and HELOCs are all within the top 1% lowest nationwide.” In other words, members pay less in loan rates and have more money to spend on themselves.

APY

On top of low rates, members can earn up to 5% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) on a cooperatively powered University Checking Account. For reference, the current average APY for checking accounts in the United States is 0.03% according to ValuePenguin, a resource for financial guidance.
