UCLA food trucks
UCLA Housing and Dining hires Los Angeles-based food trucks for various UCLA-related events, promotions and more. However, there is the highest demand for and most UCLA food trucks on The Hill — where all the UCLA dorms and residence living are located. In fall 2021, according to an email from UCLA Housing and Dining on Sept. 19, 2021, UCLA faced a staffing shortage in the dining halls and take-out restaurants, which caused longer than normal lines and waiting time for meals. Known for having the number one dining hall food in America, UCLA Housing and Dining addressed this problem by hiring local food trucks to serve lunch and dinner and allowed students to use their meal swipes at ASUCLA restaurants. The UCLA food trucks were such a hit that they have returned every year since.
The food trucks on The Hill are only available to The Hill residents, prioritizing students on a meal plan and those who live in the dorms. To get a meal from a food truck on The Hill, students must exchange one of their meal swipes for a meal voucher at the main front desk of their dorm building. Every Hill resident is on a meal plan, which determines how many meals, or swipes, a student has per week. To learn more about the meal swipe exchange, click the link below.
To view daily menu offerings and food trucks available, students can visit the UCLA Dining Hours of Operation webpage, which provides a clear table of all the food options and their hours for the day. On this webpage, students can also click a link directly to each dining hall or take-out restaurant's menu.

Some popular food trucks that are regulars on The Hill include Wafl, Flamin Hot Chicken, Creamy Boys and 8E8 Thai Street Food.
Wafl serves a variety of sweet and savory waffles, including options like fried chicken with waffle fries, fried chicken with a waffle and dessert waffles with Nutella, strawberries, bananas and other combinations. Flamin Hot Chicken offers fried chicken on Texas toast or in a sandwich with pickles and coleslaw, and allows guests to choose their preferred spiciness level. Creamy Boys is a New Zealand ice cream brand that sells various soft serve flavors, such as strawberry, mixed berry and Hokey Pokey — a unique New Zealand flavor with honeycomb toffee and vanilla ice cream.
8E8 Thai Street Food quickly became one of the most popular UCLA food trucks on The Hill, with lines sometimes longer than the dining halls. 8E8 Thai offers classic Thai dishes such as pad see ew, pad thai, yellow curry and spicy pork with basil and rice. In addition, they occasionally have offered mango sticky rice on their menu, which would sell out before they closed.
