UCLA First Thursday is a series of themed experiences that bring the UCLA campus and local communities together. Each UCLA X Westwood Village First Thursday event takes place on the first Thursday of the month and features a mix of food, fun and entertainment. First Thursdays kick-off in October and are held every month until May (with the exception of January), mirroring the academic year at UCLA. Each UCLA First Thursday event is divided into two parts: daytime activities at the Westwood Village Farmers’ Market and evening thematic block parties. More information about each part of the event is detailed below:
Daytime activities at the Westwood Village Farmers’ Market
The daytime activities are held between 12-4 p.m. at the Westwood Village Farmers’ Market on Broxton Avenue. According to the First Thursdays website linked above, the activities are a source of “wholesome, locally sourced knowledge;” past daytime activities at the Westwood farmers market include mentorship cafés, mindful awareness instruction, financial literacy coaching and live poetry.
The daytime activities are also a great introduction to the Westwood Village Farmers’ Market, which takes place every Thursday from 12-4 p.m. from October to December, and February to June. According to the Westwood Village website, the Westwood Village Farmers’ Market features over 40 weekly vendors who sell local and organic fresh produce, baked goods, prepared foods, handmade artisanal items, clothing and more. Evening thematic block parties
Evening thematic block parties run from 7-10 p.m. Every month, a new lineup of musicians perform at the block party, ranging from student groups to local bands. Apart from live music, the UCLA First Thursday events also have plenty of free food and party games to keep guests entertained.
Each evening thematic block party also has its own theme: past themes include “Night Market” (October 2023), “Joy Fest” (May 2023) and “Arts Avenue” (April 2023).
