UCLA dorms

Breaking down the four types of UCLA dorms

UCLA dorms come in four types: classic residence halls, deluxe residence halls, plazas and suites. Each dorm room is furnished with a bed, desk and dresser for each resident, regardless of building type. Classic residence halls

The classic halls, Dykstra, Rieber, Hedrick and Sproul, are the four original residence halls at UCLA. These halls have double and triple rooms, community bathrooms with four to six shower stalls, toilets and sinks, as well as study lounges on every floor. Other amenities include a communal laundry room located on the ground floor of each building, large social lounges, and (or Rieber, Hedrick and Sproul locations, front desk services.

Deluxe Residence Halls

The deluxe halls, Sproul Cove, Sproul Landing, Holly, Gardenia, Olympic and Centennial, are similar to the classic halls. They also have community bathrooms, study lounges, a communal laundry room and large social lounges. However, deluxe dorms were built more recently and have the additional feature of air conditioning.

Plazas

De Neve, Sunset Village, Rieber Terrace, Rieber Vista and Hedrick Summit are the UCLA plaza dorms. Instead of a community bathroom, each plaza dorm unit shares a private bathroom with one other adjoining room – in other words, two dorms share one bathroom.

Rieber Terrace, Reiber Vista, and Hedrick Summit offer the same amenities as the classic and deluxe residence halls, with study lounges, a communal laundry room and large social lounges that hold different programs throughout the year.

While the other plaza dorms are high-rise buildings, De Neve and Sunset Village are broken into smaller buildings, with courtyards and grassy nooks between buildings. Each building has a study lounge, and the De Neve and Sunset Village complexes each have their own community laundry rooms.

Suites

The suites, Hitch and Saxon, are low-rise complexes with outside entrances to each unit. Each unit has two rooms, one private bathroom and a common living room space furnished with a couch, chairs, a coffee table and a multipurpose table.

The community spaces have been recently renovated so that the suites have more indoor and outdoor spaces where students can study and socialize. Hitch and Saxon also have community laundry rooms for their respective residents to utilize.
