UCLA colors

A guide to your Bruin blue and gold

The UCLA colors are blue and gold, and they are an integral part of the UCLA brand.

Representing all that is UCLA, these colors have meaning behind them, representing various aspects of California. According to the UCLA alumni website, the Bruin blue symbolizes the ocean and local wildflowers. The accompanying yellow stands for our state flower, the poppy, and beautiful California sunsets.

The current UCLA colors are as follows:

Blue Pantone 285C

Gold Pantone 1235C

If you’re unfamiliar with Pantone, it organizes colors by code so that it is easier to communicate exactly which colors someone is trying to identify and use. It is particularly useful for brands and professionals; according to the Pantone website, “more than 10 million designers and producers around the world rely on Pantone products and services to help define, communicate and control color from inspiration to realization – across various materials and finishes for graphics, fashion and product design.”

UCLA colors are used throughout the UCLA experience. Consistent brand colors are very important because it is often the first tangible element that consumers connect with first on anything — clothing, packaging, school supplies and so much more. Once you start paying attention to color placements, you will find it is impossible to be at UCLA and not see blue and gold everywhere: they’re on the UCLA.edu website, on your first UCLA T-shirt, the jerseys the UCLA football team wears and a variety of other features on and around campus.

Just as the colors of your favorite brand or restaurant remain consistent across state and country borders, so do UCLA’s. Consistency in colors communicates professionalism and dependability in a brand. so you can be sure that it’s the same UCLA no matter how far you are from UCLA campus.
