Observing Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month
Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month is observed annually between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15. According to National Hispanic Heritage Month.gov, the month recognizes the history and accomplishments of those with ancestry from Spain, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean. There are many UCLA student organizations for Hispanic and Latinx students to connect with and build community. Keep reading about the ways UCLA is celebrating Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month.
ASUCLA reached out to a handful of the Hispanic/Latinx clubs on campus. The following information was provided by those who have responded; however, this is not an exhaustive list of Hispanic/Latinx clubs and organizations at UCLA. “LFTA strives to center Latine voices in creative spaces as well as create an annual theatre and film showcase that unites and empowers our community on campus,” shares Ingri Mendoza Matias, a member of LFTA.
LFTA focuses on providing a space for students to discuss issues the Latine community faces. In addition, LFTA hosts an annual showcase, the Night of Cultura (NOC), taking place in the spring quarter, for those who wish to learn more about the association at UCLA.

SACNAS is a UCLA organization that focuses on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in STEM. Emil Dominguez, co-president of UCLA SACNAS, describes the club’s outreach efforts for underserved communities: “Each year UCLA SACNAS hosts a science demonstration booth at the Annual UCLA Explore Your Universe event and co-hosts the Empower Diversity in STEM event at UCLA,” said Dominguez. SACNAS will be at the 2024 Enormous Activities Fair and the 2024 Physical and Life Sciences Welcome Days.
