Most movies filmed at UCLA are set in colleges. In fact, UCLA has been filmed as Harvard more times than Harvard has been filmed as itself. A popular filming location at UCLA is gothic building Kerckhoff Hall. Kerckhoff Hall is one of two Student Union buildings owned by Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA), which are both located right on the UCLA campus. Here are some of the most widely-known movies filmed at UCLA’s Kerckhoff Hall:

Legally Blonde (2001)

In this iconic comedy, fashionable sorority president Elle Woods follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School to win him back and discovers an interest for law in the process.

The exterior patio of UCLA’s Kerckhoff Hall transforms into the Harvard Law School building where Elle picks up her class schedule and embarrasses herself by asking for a schedule of social events.

Scream 2 (1997)

The sequel to the popular horror movie Scream (1996), Scream 2 follows Woodsboro survivor Sidney Prescott to college, where a new killer wearing the Ghostface costume terrorizes the campus.

Kerckhoff Coffeehouse, an ASUCLA coffee shop located in Kerckhoff Hall, becomes the setting for a conversation between Sidney’s boyfriend and his best friend, who discuss the rules of making a successful horror movie sequel. When Kerckhoff Coffeehouse is not busy as a film set, it’s a popular place for UCLA students to grab a cup of coffee and study.

Oppenheimer (2023)

Christopher Nolan’s newest film is the most recent of the Hollywood movies filmed at UCLA. Oppenheimer is a biopic film set in the 1940s about physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the team of scientists who developed the atomic bomb for Project Manhattan.

UCLA students on campus in February 2022 may remember that Kerckhoff Patio was closed off to the public due to filming in Kerckhoff Hall. Once Oppenheimer comes out in theaters, be on the lookout for familiar Kerckhoff Hall rooms serving as the backdrop of this historical drama.
