Sara Bareilles

Sara Bareilles was a Spring Sing force to be reckoned with; during her time at UCLA, she won Spring Sing awards for her songs “Waiting to See” in 2000, “Gravity” in 2002 and “City” in 2003. And as if that wasn’t enough, she also won a few times as a member of Awaken A Cappella.

With these many Spring Sing awards under her belt, it’s no wonder that Sara Bareilles went on to have an illustrious music career after she graduated from UCLA.

Maroon 5

Maroon 5 may be a world-famous pop rock band now, but it started out as a garage band called Kara’s Flowers in 1994. The band went went on hiatus when bassist Mickey Madden and drummer Ryan Dusick started attending UCLA, but they got back together in 2000 to compete in Spring Sing. Kara’s Flowers’ performance of “These Days” ended up being the runner-up to Barely Manilow’s parody of “Copacabana”.

Kara’s Flowers bloomed soon after their Spring Sing performance, and Maroon 5 is now one of the most well-known pop rock bands in the world.
