Four things to do once you’re home for winter break

Congrats, Bruins! We’ve officially made it through fall quarter 2023! Everyone can finally enjoy a well-deserved break. As a fourth-year undergraduate student with senioritis and a stressful finals week, I definitely need one.

Although I love being on campus, I’m really excited to go home. With three weeks of downtime, I can finally catch up on TV shows I haven’t had time to watch and hang out with hometown friends I haven’t seen since the summer. These are just two things I’m looking forward to doing once I’m home. Keep reading for more!

Catch up on TV shows you’ve been meaning to watch

Have you been meaning to watch the newest season of your favorite show all quarter? Have you been desperately avoiding spoilers online and in conversations with friends? I definitely have! Once school’s out for the winter, we can finally binge those shows and scroll on social media with no fear.

Meet up with hometown friends

FaceTime can’t beat hanging out with friends in person, and winter break is the perfect opportunity to hang out with hometown friends that go to colleges across the country. I’m really looking forward to hearing my friends’ life updates and reminiscing about the crazy things that happened in high school.

Enjoy home-cooked meals from family

The days of finals week struggle meals are over! Instead of instant noodles and takeout, we’ll be feasting on home-cooked meals made with love. I’m personally looking forward to having my favorite winter comfort food: my mom’s Chinese short rib and winter melon soup.

Doing exactly zero schoolwork

Winter break means no homework, no projects and no tests for three weeks! Our tired brains can finally recover from the stress of the quarter. Instead of schoolwork, I’ll be working on little tasks like baking cookies and learning to play new pieces on the piano.

No matter what you do when you go home, I hope you have a great winter break, Bruins!
