Ackerman Union

This might not be the LA destination you have in mind, but it’s a good place to drop by before you take the family off-campus. If you and your family haven’t already gotten your UCLA merch, it’s worth it to check out the Bruin spirit wear available in the main UCLA Store. You can even go up a couple floors to grab a quick meal at one of the ASUCLA restaurants to fuel up for a day of exploring.

The Grove

This high-end shopping center is six miles away from the UCLA campus and it’s picturesque enough to rival Downtown Disney. The Grove features trendy retail stores and a market with stalls of delicious food. There’s even a double-decker trolley that ferries visitors back and forth between the shops and the market.

Hammer Museum

Located right in Westwood, the Hammer Museum is a great place to take your family to see some amazing and thought-provoking art. Admission is free and guests can learn more about the pieces in the museum through its free mobile guide on Bloomberg Connects. If you’re feeling hungry, you can also check out Lulu, the Hammer’s acclaimed restaurant.

Venice Beach

Santa Monica is not the only beach destination to take your family to! Venice beach is full of spirit and personality, with funky shops, street performers and colorful murals lining a beachside path. The nearby Abbot Kinney Boulevard is a great shopping and dining area, so you and your family can check out some of its restaurants, boutiques and cafes.

Griffith Observatory

One of the most distinctive places in LA, the Griffith Observatory offers telescope viewings, interesting exhibits and an amazing view of the city. There are also great hiking trails nearby, as Griffith Observatory is right in the middle of a nature park. Admission is free, though access to the Samuel Oschin Planetarium requires paid tickets.
