Whether you drink coffee because you like the taste or because you depend on the caffeine to get through the day, you probably have opinions on how much sugar you put in your coffee, what kind of milk to add and how the coffee should be prepared. ASUCLA polled our Instagram followers to learn more about the coffee preferences of Bruins.

ASUCLA asked Bruins various questions about coffee. The first question was what Bruins prefer: ice blends, lattes or drip coffee. Out of the 974 Bruins who responded to the poll, 60% prefer lattes over ice blends (33%) and drip coffee (7%). You can say that UCLA students love their coffee a latte!

Regular milk and oat milk are neck-and-neck as UCLA’s preferred milk in coffee: 41% of the 1,001 students who participated in this poll voted for regular milk and 40% for oat milk. As for the remaining voters, 16% prefer almond milk or another milk substitute, and 3% opt for no milk at all.

Bruins are more split on how much sugar is acceptable in coffee: Out of the 886 Bruins who responded to the poll, 16% prefer the taste of coffee without any sugar at all, 23% prefer one sugar, 38.5% prefer two sugars, and 22.5% have a real sweet tooth and prefer three or more sugars.

How many shots of espresso do Bruins like in their cup of coffee? Well, college students love their caffeine — the top result was “two shots of espresso” with 42% of votes from the 882 students who participated in the poll, followed by “one shot of espresso” with 35% of the votes. 12% voted for three or more shots of espresso while 11% voted for no espresso, opting to not add any more caffeine to their cup of coffee.

Whether you have coffee opinions that match the majority or you’re not like other UCLA coffee drinkers, you can celebrate National Coffee Day by getting your ideal cup of coffee at any of the cafes on the UCLA campus.
