Ackerman Union
The center of student services at UCLA
Ackerman Union, the Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA)-owned Student Union building, offers a wide variety of student services. It houses the UCLA Store, 13 restaurants and numerous other facilities. For Ackerman Union service hours, click on the link below.
From the bottom floor to the top, here is everything the ASUCLA Student Union building offers to Bruins:
B-Level
The UCLA Store occupies the entire B-Level. There are several subsections within the store: BearWear for UCLA apparel, academic essentials, room and office necessities, beauty, Joe n’ Go coffee, U See LA Optometry and the UCLA Store Market.
A-Level
A-Level contains the broadest range of services. On A-level, Bruins can get their course materials from UCLA Textbooks, study in the Bruin Viewpoint Lounge, send their mail from the U.S. Post Office, donate blood at the UCLA Blood and Platelet Center, buy graduation gear from Graduation Etc., order custom T-shirts and flyers from Bruin Custom Print and relax with a game of table tennis in the Bruin Fun Zone.
This floor also hosts Wescom Credit Union and University Credit Union, both available to help Bruins manage their finances.
On top of all the above services, A-Level features the dachi nook for Asian snacks, and several restaurants: Bruin Buzz, Taco Bell, Carl’s Jr. and Kikka Sushi.
First Floor
The first floor has nine restaurants: Lollicup Fresh, Wetzel’s Pretzels, Sweetspot, Panda Express, Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill, Veggie Grill, Epicuria at Ackerman, CORE (Convenient Options Ready to Eat) and Jamba by Blendid. Sit down to eat indoors at the Ackerman Union First Floor Dining Room or outdoors on the Wescom Student Terrace.
Second Floor
The second floor has three meeting rooms and two larger spaces: the Bruin Reception Room and the Ackerman Grand Ballroom. These spaces are all available for reservation through ASUCLA Event Services. When not hosting events and meetings, the second floor rooms are open for students to use as study spaces.
Third Floor
The third floor is home to the Bruin Reflection Space, a non-denominational space open to all Bruins for contemplation, meditation, and prayer. There are also two meeting rooms on this floor available to rent through the link above.
A brief history
The ASUCLA Student Union building officially opened on April 3, 1961. At the time, UCLA didn’t have what we know now: the South Campus, the inverted fountain, sculpture garden or even Pauley Pavilion.
Ackerman Union of the 1960s had rooms for billiards and table tennis, a TV lounge, space for meetings and playing cards, a 10-lane bowling alley, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a coffee shop and a grand ballroom, which has hosted everything from movie nights to performances by Jimi Hendrix and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Although some of the leisure spaces like the bowling alley closed to make room for more student services, the spirit of Ackerman Union remains as it serves hundreds of Bruins every day.
