UCLA Trademarks & Licensing Hosts Training Session For Fair Labor Association

LOS ANGELES – Nov. 15, 2019 – UCLA Trademarks & Licensing, an enterprise of ASUCLA, hosted the Fair Labor Association (FLA)’s Factory Monitoring from the Collegiate Perspective training session at UCLA Tuesday, Nov. 5 and Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Over the course of two days, 30 collegiate licensing staff participants and more than a dozen university licensing directors and retail buyers gathered in the Kerckhoff State Rooms at UCLA to learn about the steps and phases of internal monitoring throughout the auditing process. They also participated in conversations about social compliance trends, making Codes of Conduct practical, reading audit reports and what to do after an audit has taken place.

“ASUCLA was pleased to welcome the Fair Labor Association to campus for an interactive day of teaching new practices to ensure workplace rights and conditions codes of conduct are implemented by suppliers,” said Liz Kennedy, Director of Ethical Labor & Sustainability for UCLA Trademarks & Licensing. “Participants from licensing and retail buying learned new skills and techniques for engaging their suppliers to deliver on legally-binding code of conduct requirements.”

Aside from ASUCLA staff, representatives from UCLA, the UCLA Store as well as from the University of Arizona, University of Connecticut, University of Notre Dame and California State University Fresno were in attendance.

The training hosted at UCLA is one of three similar training sessions with the FLA to take place this fall, with Notre Dame having hosted one in September, and Connecticut hosting one later this month.
