The Hundreds celebrates 20th brand anniversary with UCLA collaboration

Fusing the history of UCLA and its basketball sporting legacy with the premier streetwear fashion of The Hundreds, the limited-edition collection is now available in-store at the UCLA Store in Ackerman Union.

Los Angeles, Calif., April 27, 2023 – The UCLA brand is joining in on The Hundreds’ 20th anniversary celebration with the release of a limited-edition UCLA x The Hundreds collection on April 27. The streetwear line is now available at the UCLA Store pop-up shop in-store at Ackerman Union.

The UCLA x The Hundreds collaboration is licensed by UCLA Trademarks and Licensing (TM&L), a division of Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA). Through the selection of pullover hoodies, T-shirts and headwear, the clothing line encapsulates a west coast, California style of wear through The Hundreds streetwear style.

Calling attention to the vintage Joe Bruin mascot from the 1950-1960’s, this collection further pulls inspiration from the UCLA Basketball success during these decades, and meshes the two brands together with a unique basketball iteration of The Hundreds’ iconic mascot, Adam Bomb.

“We are excited to welcome back a UCLA alumnus alongside The Hundreds team to the UCLA Store to offer this exclusive collaboration that combines The Hundreds streetwear legacy with the lifestyle of the UCLA brand,” said Peter Poon, UCLA Store director.

A community based streetwear brand and social media platform, The Hundreds’ foundation shares some history with UCLA; the company was founded in 2003 by Ben Shenassafar, a UCLA alumnus (sociology, 2002), and Bobby Kim. In his book “This Is Not A T-Shirt,” Kim reflects on his time spent at UCLA as he began spreading awareness of The Hundreds’ growing website with flyers — an action that prompted his ban from all University of California campuses.

In a turn of events, Kim would be then invited back to UCLA as a guest speaker in 2007 for a lecture, “How to Start a Brand with Absolutely No Clue.”

“My favorite memory of college was attending games at Pauley Pavilion and being on campus during March Madness, even though I graduated from UCLA, 21 years ago,” said Shenassafar. “Collaborating with UCLA and having our team design The Hundreds X UCLA feels like a dream come true, especially since I was born and raised in Los Angeles. It's surreal to think that our designs will be worn by current students on the same campus where I once walked. It was always something I wanted to do with UCLA but never thought it would happen. I'm thrilled to say that it's finally happening, and the release of our collection is set for April.”

Shop the UCLA x The Hundreds collection at the UCLA Store in Ackerman Union and The Hundreds Los Angeles Flagship store at 501 N. Fairfax Avenue.
