Northern Lights reopens with panini and poke lunch favorites
Following a seven-month closure, Northern Lights reopened on Sept. 26 with a menu chock-full of fresh panini, poke and plant-based bowl options.

Los Angeles, Calif., Sept. 26, 2022 – Serving up plant-based bowls, poke and freshly pressed paninis with refreshing agua fresca on the side, Northern Lights once again opened its doors to the Bruin community on Sept. 26.
Northern Lights, a division of Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) Food Services, is located on the north side of the UCLA campus and was temporarily closed in March. In the interim, ASUCLA Restaurants management reviewed all of the various offerings throughout the northern end of campus and consolidated a few of the most popular offerings into one convenient location.
Now open again to the public, hungry Bruins can enjoy a traditional poke or vegetable-forward bowls with a variety of flavor profiles like the yuzu-pineapple salmon bowl accenting the flavors of the protein with yuzu-kosho vinaigrette, cilantro, scallions and seaweed salad; or sweet potato ponzu bowl with avocado, edamame, cucumber, jalapenos, shaved carrots and crispy onions to top it off. Those who are chefs at heart can stray away from the bowl menu to build their own from scratch.
Spinach mushroom panini
For a hearty grilled option, look no further than Northern lights’ panini menu for a perfectly pressed chicken and pesto with roasted peppers, topped with melted provolone cheese in between two slices of sourdough bread. Other panini options include spicy chicken, roasted mushroom and chicken, and truffle grilled cheese with the option to compliment a meal with a select soup of the day.
“We’ve put together a menu that unites two of ASUCLA Restaurants’ most beloved concepts on campus, paninis and poke, with some exciting new recipes to try,” Kristen Woolley, ASUCLA corporate executive chef, said. “Join us for lunch any day to try our new additions.”
To complete every meal, Northern Lights has also added aqua frescas to its refreshment offerings, serving up house-made tangy jamaica or the agua fresca del dia.
