ASUCLA T-shirt Contest kicks off 11th year of student-made designs

UCLA students can now submit their entries to the 11th annual ASUCLA T-shirt Contest by Oct. 27; the winning design will be available for purchase at the UCLA Store in early 2024.

Los Angeles, Calif., Oct. 16, 2023 – It’s that time of year again! The 11th annual Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) T-shirt Contest is now open for entries until Friday, Oct. 27.

UCLA students are encouraged to submit an entry through this link for a chance to have their design outfitted on a one-of-a-kind T-shirt that will be exclusively available to purchase at the UCLA Store, and win a $1,000 gift card to the UCLA Store. Design submissions can be made in any artistic medium, so long as the entry is original work.

“All UCLA students are encouraged to put their creative abilities forward and submit an entry to this year’s contest,” said Guy Adams, Academic Publishing and Custom Product manager.

The UCLA community is invited to experience all student-made art for the ASUCLA T-shirt contest at a showcase held on Monday, Nov. 6 in front of Bruin Plaza between 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The finalist designs will be selected by members of the ASUCLA Board of Directors, Undergraduate Students Association (USA) Internal Vice President, Graduate Students Association (GSA) and ASUCLA management, to be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Students can begin voting online for their favorite finalist design on Nov. 27 through 5 p.m. on Dec. 1; the link will be released on the @asucla Instagram channel. After all votes are tallied, the winner will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 5, and their design will be sent to the presses for sale at the UCLA Store in the winter quarter 2024. Proceeds from the winning T-shirt sale will support USA and GSA.

Students who enter the ASUCLA T-shirt Contest must be currently enrolled at UCLA and are limited to one entry per year; past contest winners are ineligible.

The 11th annual ASUCLA T-shirt Contest follows last year’s winning design of the late Powell Cat perched atop a stack of books, created by then-third-year English Student Linsey Montgomery. In the 11 years of the annual ASUCLA T-shirt Design Contest, the friendly competition stayed true to its T-shirt roots for nine of the 11 years; reimagining the contest in 2020, the appropriate shift was made to replace the T-shirt with a face covering.
