“La Memoria de la Tierra: UCLA” mural, an ASUCLA feature on campus
“La Memoria de la Tierra: UCLA” is a mural made by artist, professor and Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) founder, Dr. Judith “Judy” F. Baca. The mural depicts the past, present and future of UCLA and the land that the campus was built on. The art piece was made possible by the Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA), the UCLA Centennial Committee and SPARC, among many other campus groups. UCLA Planetarium
The UCLA Planetarium is a public planetarium welcome for all ages to enjoy. According to its webpage, the UCLA Planetarium holds free public shows, typically held by astronomy graduate students on constellations, the night sky and much more. To attend one of the hour-long shows and other fun things to do near UCLA, visit the planetarium on the eighth floor of the UCLA Mathematical Sciences Building. The Grove and the Original Farmers Market LA
Just over five miles from campus is the Grove and Farmers Market LA. The Grove has a variety of shops from clothing stores to book shops. In addition, the Farmers Market is a historical site for many in Los Angeles, offering various produce, grocers, restaurants and artisanal shops to stroll through.
LACMA
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is just over five miles from the UCLA campus. LACMA has a collection of thousands of pieces and temporary art exhibitions, as well as opportunities for the Los Angeles community to learn about music or film and attend workshops. LACMA provides additional student discounts for those 18+ years old residing in LA County and currently in school. With a valid ID, students can pay $19 for admission to the museum instead of the $23 for adults residing in LA County. LACMA also offers university self-guided tours with a professor or in a club, offering several opportunities to participate in fun things to do near UCLA with other Bruins. Venice Beach
Located near Marina Del Rey, Venice Beach is a lively beach town with plenty of activities and places to shop and eat, like right along Abbot Kinney Boulevard. With a skatepark right in the sand and a pathway to bike ride parallel to the beach, Venice Beach is a great place to explore fun things to do near UCLA.
Griffith Observatory
Although a little further from the UCLA campus, Griffith Observatory offers a green park to walk along, as well as exhibitions and opportunities to learn more about the solar system and Earth.
