Ring in the new year with Starbucks Coffee at ScrubJay Café

Located in the Manoukian Medical Building, ScrubJay Café began pouring Starbucks coffee and serving ready-made cafe meals to the Bruin community on Jan. 25.

Los Angeles, Calif., Jan. 25, 2023 – Filling a tall order for the UCLA medical community, expanded coffee service is now available through Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) Restaurants’ latest concept, ScrubJay Café. Located in the Manoukian Medical building, ScrubJay Café is an entirely new café that proudly pours Starbucks coffee alongside its selection of fresh grab-and-go meals, pastries and more.

Plans to bring the café to its new home at 100 Medical Plaza have been brewing since 2020; the space opened to the Bruin community on Jan. 25 for all to enjoy the global coffeehouse chain’s famous brews, espressos, teas and barista blends.

To compliment any beverage, grab-and-go meal options such as breakfast sandwiches, pastries, bagels, muffins and sandwiches are ready-made for toasting alongside salads and pre-packaged snacks available for purchase.

“We are excited to add another coffeehouse location to ASUCLA Restaurants so Bruins, no matter where they are on the UCLA campus, have a convenient choice for their daily coffee and a snack,” said Cindy Bolton, director of ASUCLA Restaurants.

The name of the new ASUCLA coffeehouse concept, ScrubJay Cafe, captures the beauty of the California native bird that flaunts a bold blue color, and serves as a play on words to invite the scrub-wearing medical community to the cafe location.

ScrubJay Café hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday between 8 a.m.-1 p.m. For all ASUCLA coffeehouse locations on the UCLA campus and hours of operation, visit the asucla.ucla.edu/hours.
