Cities in California, and across the U.S., are in the midst of a housing crisis, most evident in widespread and rising homelessness. In this talk, Professor Ananya Roy, founding director of the Institute on Inequality and Democracy at UCLA Luskin, will analyze the causes of housing precarity, situating homelessness in the broader context of socioeconomic inequality. Drawing on the case of Los Angeles, as well as cities from around the world, she will share the bold visions and plans generated by social movements and community organizations to end homelessness.
